In dance, kinetic energy is used to create movement and art. The dancer built up potential energy, which is transformed into kinetic energy as she soars into the air. As she bends her knees to jump, she exerts force into the ground and--because of Newton's third law--it also exerts force onto her. As she releases, she goes into the air and the potential energy converts to kinetic energy, following the First Law of Thermodynamics. As the dancer reaches her maximum velocity, gravity brings her back down to the ground. The kinetic energy begins to convert back into potential energy as she returns to the ground. It takes passion, hard work and a desire for perfection. Dance is everywhere. Dancer Taylor Jacubenta is in the iconic Kitri Jump.
