The two games I picked to play and analyze were called Celeste and Doki Doki Literature Club. The thing that attracted me to both of these games were recommendations from friends, and how they were truly impacted at the end of their playthroughs. Both games were absolutely beautiful, and I would recommend them to anyone interested in games that will affect their state of mind.

Celeste by Maddy Thorson
Released January 2018
Run on Steam, itch.io, Switch, PlayStation, XBox, Epic Games Launcher
Celeste is a beautiful game centered around the main character, Madeline, who's sole goal is to climb Celeste Mountain, has to overcome all sorts of physical barriers, such as magic walls that make it incredibly difficult to progress. At the same time, Madeline meets a bunch of people as she climbs, including a personification of her own self-doubt known as Badeline. Badeline acts as the main antagonist in the game, making it harder for Madeline to climb the mountain and actually knocks her down, before Madeline finally comes to terms with herself and uses Badeline's help to reach the top of Celeste mountain. The game revolves around the trans experience and with Madeline needing to accept herself for who she is and be proud of herself in order to reach her goal.

Doki Doki Literature Club by Team Salvato
Released September 2017
Run on PC, Switch, Playstation, XBox
Doki Doki Literature Club, more famously known as DDLC, has the main character starting the game as a very antisocial person in high school, when your neighborhood friend, Sayori, who you have been going to school with for many years, tells you to join your high school's literature club. There, you meet the shy Yuri, the bubbly club president Monika, and the assertive Natsuki. You go through your days of the club, writing poems and doing daily activities, before Sayori reveals to you that she has depression. At this point, the character gets confessed to by the other two girls, Yuri and Natsuki, before meeting Sayori once again where she professes her love for you. No matter what path your take, the game abruptly ends, forcing you to play through the game a second time where Sayori is completely missing, to the ignorance of the player's character and the other girls of the club. Natsuki seems to be the main girl of this playthrough, but unfortunately once again, everything goes wrong and you are forced to play through a third time. The game reflects the stress that high school students go through and how severely it can affect them and their actions.
