University Awards
Student Crew Club christened its boat the Agnar Pytte, 1994.
Case Western Reserve University awarded Pytte the University Medal in recognition of his leadership, dedication and service to the University, to higher education, and to society, 1999.
The Agnar Pytte Center for Science Education and Research was named for Pytte in “appreciation for his distinguished leadership as President of the University from 1987 to 1999,” 2001.

1988 The School of Applied Social Sciences was named the Mandel School of Applied
Social Sciences.
1989 Design and construction of phase 1 (16 residence halls) of the all fiber-optic computer
network, CWRUnet, was completed.
Student protestors were killed by the Chinese military in Tiananmen Square.
The Exxon Valdez spilled millions of gallons of crude oil in Alaska's Prince William Sound.
1990 The Hubble Space Telescope began its observations of the Earth.
Tim Berners-Lee published a proposal for, and developed a prototype of, the

1993 The Undergraduate Alumni Association was formed, membership including all alumni with
