Technology


The use of electric razors, radios, and record players is permitted.  Only television sets with completely self-contained antenna systems are permitted... The erection of outside aerials is not permitted.  The use of sun lamps and other electric heating and cooking devices is strictly prohibited.

Radios and record players are permitted in student rooms provided they are used in a manner not to annoy the other residents.  The use of other electrical appliances is prohibited.

Calls are allowed any evening during the week.  Although there is no rule absolutely forbidding Sunday calling, the spirit of the House is opposed to it.

All outgoing calls should be made through pay station phones located in booths in the corridors on each floor.  All incoming calls will be routed through the dormitory office.  Residents will be notified of calls via buzzers in the rooms.  They can then take the calls at the incoming telephone booth located in the corridor nearest their respective rooms.  Only emergency calls will be put through between 11:00 P.M. and 8:30 A.M.

Incoming telephone calls to residents will be received by the dormitory office between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and midnight.  Occupants will be notified by the intercom system in each room.  Calls will then be received on the house phone nearest their rooms.  Pay phones on each floor may be used for outgoing calls.

Cooking in the dormitories is limited only to the kitchenette areas.  Cooking appliances, air conditioners, and electric heaters are not permitted in student bedrooms and suite living rooms.  Rooms are wired for the use of electrical appliances, such as portable hair dryers, razors, lamps, and clocks only.

Kitchenettes are available in each building for the use of residents.  For health and safety reasons, cooking in the rooms is prohibited.  Hot plates, toaster ovens, and microwave ovens may not be used.

North campus residents are permitted to have refrigerators no larger than 5 1/2 cubic feet in their rooms.  Students in South campus suites may bring in a full-size refrigerator, but a $24.00 deposit is required.

New light bulbs may be obtained from the office without cost, upon turning in burned out ones.

Each dormitory has a basement or first floor laundry room with coin-operated washers and dryers.  Cost is 50 cents for the washing machines and 35 cents for the dryers.
