Fantastical Learning

Introduction

From childhood stories of fairies and magical beasts are instilled into the learning process. Whether it is realized it or not these fantasies serve a greater purpose than to just entertain, they creates ways for the developing and developed minds to understand complex concepts; fantasy creates better understanding and provides an outside perspective which can then be applied back to reality. In discussing this topic a major focus was on how digital media and literature in particular has been used to enhance fantastical elements and thus enhance understanding. A list of works includes The Temple of No by Crows Crows Crows from 2016, Adventures with Anxiety by Nickey Case created in 2019, Nutly's Dinasour Daydreams by ABC mouse released in 2007, Hero: A Game about password security by Garrett Alpha from 2017, Depression Quest by Zoe Quinn and Patrick Lindsey published in 2013, and Everything is going to be ok by Nathalie Lawhead created in 2017. Cumulatively these digital media pieces explore various aspects ranging from emotions, to child education, to therapy, and mental illness; they offer insight into the importance of fantasy and how it has shaped society and how it will continue to affect the development of future generations.
