Decorator's Challenge

In an attempt to make their dorm rooms livable, a vast number of students become amateur interior decorators.  Their efforts range from a simple paint job, carpet, and posters, to wholescale carpentry, rewiring, and custom panelling.  Extra phones are installed, along with furniture, bars, kitchens, and private computer terminals.  Somehow, all illegal additions or alterations seem to disappear by the end of the terms.  The ingenuity of students appears to be endless.
-Vis-a-Vis, 1980

All dormitory rooms are furnished with a bed, desk chair, desk, lamps, bookshelves, drawer and closet space, mirror, wastebasket, and curtains...Students who wish to paint their rooms must first obtain permission from the Director of University Housing.
