On the top 3 panels, the author introduces Siamak’s words to describe how bad they were treated in the prison. The following panel on the middle vividly shows the inhuman torture Siamak suffered which corresponds to Siamak’s words. On the bottom of the page, the panel directly reflects the author’s negative feeling; in addition, it greatly shortens the distance between the readers and the author, making readers more easily involved in the book. After hearing Siamak's story, Marjane tries to stay away from household iron since iron is one of the tools in prison to torture people. The author chooses to juxtapose torture and Marjane's reaction in order to show the. great impact on a child because some unhuman experience she has heard. I doubt whether it is a good way to convey too many negative stories to a child as we can see Marjane even tries to stay away from a household iron.
