die as a martyr

This political propaganda incited many youngsters in the nation to fight for the country and die for the country meaninglessly. Martyr is supposed to be a glorious nomination nationwide, and many people would be willing to devote their life for that. However, the depiction of the author to the martyr was not glorious but full of pain and patho: the war was meaningless, neither their death. Those national fundamentalists control young people with religion and bestow nonexisting religious gifts to youngsters to let them die. At that time, the turmoil was not only from politics but also from the cultural background. The government makes people think that the disaster was caused by foreign enemy but actually was ingrained in the nation. By the time that Shah was overturned, the destination of Iran and Iran public was molded. The lack of education caused them to make the choice of religion and fundamentalism, and also the lack of education made them ignorant enough to be willing to accept to join the army, die in the war, and become a martyr. The government, after inciting the public to join the war, gave the public an obligation to protect the country. From the perspective of the author, the destination of Iranian was predictable and pathetic, but from the perspective of the public themselves, those undereducated specifically, they thought they were striving to protect the country and were glorious. This sharp irony expressed the author’s anger at the government: the person lying on bed with needles on his arms was suffering great pain. The nation did not endow the people who die with glory but make people still alive painful. However, at the same time, she was so weak that she could do nothing to change the situation: if she tried to say the truth, she would be prosecuted to death, probably would also be a “martyr”, or deprecated as a treason.
