Isolation

Introduction

Isolation is defined as a person remaining apart or away from others. This can be quite literal, yet still occurs when one is surrounded by people. Isolation is a complicated and nuanced aspect of the human condition. Much of the pleasure and pain of being a human revolves around other people. Thus, the lack of others is a critical aspect of life one must consider, as at some point or another, each of us has felt isolated. Our book will explore the physical and psychological effects of isolation before diving into the emotional nuances of isolation by analyzing pieces of interactive media and video games. To enhance your engagement with this material, start by perusing each author’s dedicated section as outlined in the table of contents. Within each section, the author provides an introduction to each of the works they will be discussing, accompanied by clickable links for readers to experience the associated games firsthand. It is recommended that the reader explores each author's section thoroughly before returning back to the introductory section to see if any new perspectives were gained through exploration. Subsequently, we encourage readers to further explore the author’s all about me sections to further gain a glimpse into the people behind the work.
