That is until your fall in Chapter 6, where everything comes to a head. You desperately want Badeline to go away, yet in the process you forget that she is human, too. And as a part of you, Badeline wants to protect you, even if it is in a way you think is the opposite.
And you fall down, and learn an important lesson: that trying to reject a part of yourself might not be the best way to improve yourself.
Your climb and consequent fall helps you understand that instead of trying to prune and remove the parts you don’t like about yourself, it would be better to accept all of you and move forwards. Madeline’s rediscovery of herself not just herself, but Badeline as well, changes her whole perspective on climbing the Mountain.
Badeline helps you climb the Mountain, because Badeline wanted to be accepted too, she is you, after all.
And at the top, you talk. Badeline manifested into a physical separate being because of the Mountain, and they wouldn’t be able to talk outside of it - but now that you’ve found peace in Badeline and her traits, it wouldn’t be so bad anymore.
Madeline came to the Mountain to prove something to others, but in the end, all she did was prove to herself that she could do it. Despite her tenacity in the climb, Madeline still had her doubts. But the Mountain gave more than a challenge: it have her a chance to look within herself and find solace there.
