Discovery and Exploration

Introduction

Discovery as a theme in video games have been used much throughout the past few decades. The idea of exploring an open world and slowly learning about the game really provokes deeper thought into the philosophies and morals behind games.

Though it seems one-dimensional, discovery has many different angles in which it can be viewed. From exploration to self-discovery to the philosophical question To be or not to be?, Each of these aspects of discovery bring different meanings to the table about our lives and the world around us.

To get the most out of this book, you can utilize the table of contents to access the different sections in the book. Each section addresses a specific subtheme, and contains analysis of two different works related to this subtheme, and the general theme of discovery and exploration. To navigate through a section, first use the table of contents and open the section’s introduction page. You can then navigate through the pages in the section. Once you are finished, you can return to the table of contents to look at a different section.
