What is Education Philanthropy?



Impoverished students face many barriers to education: low quality schooling, lack of resources and support, inadequate nutrition, etc. Meanwhile, middle-upper class students are handed opportunities that put them ahead, widening the achievement gap. 

Education nonprofits aim to close the achievement gap between middle-class and poor students. In order to increase the likelihood of their success, money collected from grants, the government, and donors allow these organizations to provide children with a variety of programs and resources:




This geospatial map of the United States clearly illustrates one of the primary issues deep rooted in our inherently flawed education system: funding inequity. On a local, state, and national level, drastic disparities in funding and access to resources deny many students a proper education, leaving millions of students behind annually. On a global scale, as one can imagine, this education inequity is even more prominent. Education philanthropy exists to diminish the wide gap in education funding.
