Challenges to Philanthropy

Challenges Posed to Social Service Philanthropy by Social Justice Movement and Black Lives Matter

Today, BLM is defined as "an ideological and political intervention in a world where black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise," according to blacklivesmatter.com.

Social workers challenge social injustice.
Social workers play a crucial part by impacting policy change, advocating for underrepresented communities, and eliminating disparity. They involve themselves in activities that bring about reform or acting as support systems for those suffering the most from this unrest. Social workers are a valuable part of the Black Lives Matter movement and can greatly help bring about the change this country needs.

In an interview with a social service nonprofit, Bellefaire, this was the response regarding the effects that the BLM movement and social justice movement had on Bellefaire:

Another representative from Bellefaire said this regarding the challenges that were given to them:

"it hasn't affected our ability to provide services, I think that it has made all of us realize, we have to be that much more educated, aware and conscious as to how we provide out services

The BLM Movement and the social justice movements have forced many social services nonprofits to reevaluate the way they provide services. They must make sure that they are always being racially equal.
