1884Dr. John Eisenmann, Professor of Civil Engineering and Drawing was recognized as the first head of the department
1885The Bachelor of Science program in Civil Engineering was established
1887Dr. Cady Staley, president of the university, became the head of the department
1887A new course in Sanitary Engineering was added
1888The department implemented the use of Student Inspection Trips. The course catalog stated: "The student will make frequent visits, under the direction of the instructor to the various engineering works, quarries and industrial manufacturers of practical interest to the engineer. The students are required to present detailed reports prepared from the notes and sketches taken while engaged on these class excursions."
1897The first ECIV degree was awarded to Charles Goffing
1902Dr. Frank Neff became the head of the department
1903The first Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering was awarded
1904Courses in Railroad Engineering, Highway Engineering, Roof and Bridges, and Details of Construction were added
1907The catalog of 1907 stated: "Civil Engineering occupied twelve rooms in the Main building. Besides recitation rooms, there were drafting rooms, library and reading rooms, cement and concrete laboratories, and offices. The library then contained 1000 volumes, 2200 indexed pamphlets and 7000 prints and photographs. The instrument room contained a precise level of the U.S.Coast and Geodetic Survey Nodel, a 100-foot standard bar for comparison of tapes, 20 complete engineer' s transits, 12 engineer's shovels, chains, level and sight rods of all types, and many cases of structural models and materials."
1923The first Master of Science in Civil Engineering was awarded to S.B. Folk
1929Course offering in Railroad Engineering were reduced, with more emphasis put to Highway Engineering and Mechanics of Structures
1931Dr. Clarence Eddy was acting head of the department
1933Dr. George Barnes was named the head of the department. He developed the hydraulics and sanitary laboratory, the structural models laboratory, the concrete laboratory, the highways laboratory and the Civil Engineering Department Library. He also supervised the design and construction of campus paving and construction of the Lilac Drive stairway, and was much engaged on model studies conducted for the United States Corps of Engineers in designing fifteen dams for flood control in the Muskingum Valley. 
1938Camp Case for the Training in the Fundamentals of Surveying in the Mohican State Forest near Loudonville, OH was established. For many years, the camp was located first in Waynesburg, OH and was later relocated to Loudonville
1939Two Civil Engineering conferences were held at Case, the Regional Conference on Highway Engineering and the National Conference of Surveying Teachers
1943The Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Mechanics and Materials were merged to form the new Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics
1954A substantial new addition of equipment was purchased for Sanitary Engineering
1955Dr. Harry Churchill was named head of the department
1955The Soils Laboratory moved from the Main building to the Warner Building
1957Dr. Harry Nara was named head of the department
