Rare Book Dust Rare book and manuscript collections are stored in environmentally controlled rooms with dedicated HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems; these systems maintain ideal temperature and relative humidity conditions in the room in order to help preserve the objects housed within. This is an image of dust/debris sampled from the ductwork of an HVAC system serving just such a room.
