Group 3 Summary Salter 9/24/26
3. Lankoski [14] suggests that there are two types of player engagement within games: goal related, where the player takes on a particular mission and set of goals, and empathic, where the player builds an alignment with and potential allegiance to the character. (Salter 2)
Summary: Salter paraphrases Lankoski's idea that games can build player engagement in one of two ways: goal related or emotional experiences (2). In Gone Home the goal related experience is to find out what happened to Sam and eventually discover the attic where the final journal lies. Throughout the game there are lots of emotional experiences as the player learns secrets about their family.
