QR Codes

This page focuses on the QR codes of Tacoma. In “Hamlet on the Holodeck,” Murray described screens as “...a reassuring fourth wall, and the controller (mouse or joystick or dataglove) is the threshold object that takes you in and leads you out of the experience” (Murray 105 & 106). In other words linking a physical device or action to an in game one deepens immersion. Tacoma builds on this concept by having the player scan QR codes from the game in real life to access information. This causes the game to bleed out into the real world. Pictured above is one such QR Code. Despite being a still image, a snapshot from the game, it remains functional and is a scrap of interactive entertainment.
