Group 1 Quotation
Walking simulators are often critiqued for their lack of mechanism, in which the player has less control or interaction with other players. In "Gone Home? Walking Simulators and the Importance of Slow Gaming", Reed et al. argue that “You cannot become better than someone else at a walking simulator, and this lack of a mechanism for dividing elite from noob might be what’s really behind some critiques complaining about the lack of gameplay” (121). This gives a perspective of the critics of walking simulators' frustration with the lack of competition and difficulty as no one can improve from a "noob" to an "elite." However, the slow pace of walking simulators allows for everyone to easily play due to its simplicity.
