Revision Process
We greatly appreciate the feedback that you have given us on our book. It is always an honor to get input from the readers as it allows us to see new ways that we may have been blind to polish our arguments. While we agree with many of the important points that you have brought up, we feel it is important to emphasize the fact that there are many different ways to view and interpret the history of the Civil Rights movement and that there are different ways to teach and frame it.
Our book seeks to focus on the ways in which different aspects, groups, and beliefs of the Civil Rights movement are related to one another and highlight these perspectives in order to reteach the movement to a mainstream audience. As a result of this, you may have felt that we neglected to include a framing centered around a national versus international debate in regards to the Civil Rights movement. In addition, this framing may have also left you feeling as though a deeper focus on the differences in the Jill Lepore versus Nikhil Pal Singh arguments were required to reteach the Civil Rights movement. While we agree that these claims are important aspects that should be highlighted, our book has a different focus that may encompass some parts of these debates.
Due to this misunderstanding of purpose, we have looked into the way in which we frame our argument and purpose in writing this book and have made these more clear throughout our argument and teaching pages. We would like to ensure that our audience is always aware and always able to clearly understand what we are arguing and why it is that we are creating this reframing.
In addition, we realized that our goal in creating the step-by-step process for the teaching page may have been unclear. What we wanted readers and students to do during the teaching process was to understand and figure out what kind of structuring we used and devised to create the order of the paths. From this, they would be better able to learn from and understand our purpose and reasoning for why they were structured in this manner. This may have been unclear to our audience and as a result, you may have felt that we should clarify why each path was written in the way it was. We have revised these steps and rewritten them in a way that better shows our purpose and goal so that readers may have a better understanding of them
We hope this letter finds you all well and has provided insight as to the direction we plan on taking our book in the future. Your comments have been most helpful in determining the ability of these desires to be communicated, and we hope to have rectified any misunderstandings that our initial draft has caused.
Many thanks,
Group 1
