The Collected Crane Archives: Hart Crane

Additional Information

Taken from the Hart Crane Society's Facebook:

Two pages from one of Crane's notebooks, c. 1925-1928. Crane often used his notebooks to record his expenses, including his debts! On the left-hand page, he details money owed to 'Malcolm' (possibly his friend, the poet and critic Malcolm Cowley), and on the right-hand page a list of expenses, including, possibly, bookshops that Crane frequented: the famous Washington Square Bookshop in New York City and Laukhuff's Bookshop back home in Cleveland. He also notes here the expense of $15 to buy a new typewriter. Was he replacing the one he once damaged by throwing out of his window in frustration...
