Patteren [sic], New York
Dear Grace:
Bein' that I'm gonna' kinda gotta sorta write to you I might as well state that everythin' is well here among the hay-stacks, that I had a hectic day and night in New York on my way -- and was damned glad to get back.
I tried to get you a couple nice Nap prints in that store I rave about in Brooklyn, but nothing could be had short of ten bucks and I didn't have any such cash on hand at the time. However, you can plan on two daisies [underlined] sometime when "we", Otto and I, can afford it. Of course I caught a cold and sore throat in your city with its steam-pipes and such appurtenances of civilization. I hope it leaves me soon. Yesterday was very summery, indeed, -- but today it looks bleak again and shakes a wicked wind.
I'm back on The Bridge scaffolding again. Temporarily am Cristopher [sic] Columbus in mid-channel. The poem, as a whole, looks more exciting than ever to me. I wrote Otto a long letter as soon as I got back -- describing details of my plan, etc. and expect an answer any day now.
I'll write Grandma again soon. Give her my love. Charles, too. I'm ordering Laukhuff to send you out a copy of Frank's "Virgin Spain" -- charged to me, of course, and I hope you'll give it a careful reading.
Yours devotedly,
Hart
