Dear Charles:
This is just to wish you a happy sea-son and a fortunate New Year. And your forgiveness for lamentable omissions… I had hoped to see you again before I left Cleveland, but the whole visit was mad and exhausting, and I ended by spending most of the time in a dentist’s chair.
Then back here to the country with my friends, Slater Brown and Susie, for a month – since which time I have been back in New York looking in vain for work – that is until last week. I’m now here for the rest of the winter – well provided for and writing on The Bridge.
The windfall was quite unexpected and I haven’t yet quite got to my feet. Otto Kahn has provided me with ample funds for a year’s free work on my poetry, and you can imagine how depressed I feel about it. Already my various relatives are be-coming “aesthetic” in their reactions!
Let me hear from you soon, and as I said, please forgive me again.
Best luck to you, Charles!
yrs,
Hart
