Case School of Engineering

Case School of Engineering has a long history.

Established as the Case School of Applied Science in 1880, it opened its doors in September 1881 in downtown Cleveland, having five faculty and sixteen students.  >>>what kind of education>>>>. In 1885, the School moved to a new location in University Circle. By offering a rigorous academic program that kept the pace with the demands of the industry and science advancements, the School continue to grow and expand its curriculum.

In 1947, The School changed its name to Case Institute of Technology to better reflect its engineering focus. By then, the School has graduated <<<>>> students, had an enrollment of <<<>>>>, had a faculty body of <<<>>>, and had <<<>>> engineering programs.  Over the next twenty years, Case Institute of Technology grew tremendously.  Through a sustained building fundraiser campaign, there were many academic spaces added as well as first dorms. Curriculum continued to evolve and new disciplines were added to the academic offerings.

In 1967, the federation of Case Institute of Technology and its very close neighbor, Western Reserve University, has finally happened after many years of discussions.  The federation was a challenging process but proved successful in building on each institutions’ strengths to create a new institution with strong academic and research programs, Case Western Reserve University. After federation, Case Institute of Technology continued as an undergraduate college within the new school until 1987, when it merged with the Western Reserve College (established 1971) and became The Colleges.

This organization lasted until 1992, when the College of Arts and Sciences and The Case School of Engineering were established.
