The focus of this are is on the subsection of relationships that is the relationship(s) between player and game. This is about the connection formed by a game, bonding its world to the world of the player. It largely involves immersion for that reason. The section focuses on two games, Tacoma by the Fullbright Company, and The Spectrum Retreat by Dan Smith Studios. Tacoma is a sci-fi game where Amy (the player) is sent to explore a space station and find out what happened to its crew. This involves picking up items, reading communications, and listening to AR logs. The Spectrum Retreat is a game where the player wakes up in a hotel with no memories. There is a mysterious person named Cooper helping them to escape the hotel. The hotel is actually a simulation. THe player must solve puzzles to regain their memory and escape. These two games both create deep feelings of immersion and forge strong ties connecting their worlds to reality. These connections are explored in the pages below.
